Niche affiliate marketing consists of selling another company’s or person’s product and earning a commission in return. Typically I associate this with marketing on the Internet, but it doesn’t have to mean that. It can be offline as well.

A niche is a group of people that is interested in a specific subject or product. This can be a large group or a very small one – a micro niche. A niche can be defined geographically, but in our global marketplace today, this is becoming more unlikely.

You might have thought that the niche for Los Angeles Lakers merchandise would be confined to the west coast of the U.S., or at least to NBA fans in the U.S.  As the Bejing Olympics have shown us, that particular niche is spread far and wide across the globe.

If you are in niche affiliate marketing, you would choose a product or service to promote. You would then choose the vehicle within which to promote it.  You might build a blog or a website and then attract internet surfers interested in that niche to visit your website and hopefully make a purchase.

Another option would be to publish a newsletter with information focused on a specific niche. You would include ad promotions in your newsletter for which you are an affiliate and so receive a commission after a sale. You could also sell regular advertising space as well.

Your niche could be dog training, so you would produce a newsletter offering all kinds of information on dog training. Then you’d want to entice as many dog folks as you possibly could to subscribe to your dog training newsletter. Since these readers would be interested in dog products, you could mention a couple of them in each edition and fill your wallet with the commission you earn from sales.

It sounds simple and in some cases is simple, but implementation can be a challenge for some. There are multitudes of internet marketing tools designed to help with the implementation. Master a couple of these and you’re good to go.
