YouTube Australia Launches
With YouTube launching a dedicated Australian portal (as announced on smh.com) there will obviously be a fresh wave of users flocking to the web video service.
The new site was launched on 23 October at Fox Studios in Sydney and YouTube’s Sakina Arsiwala has said that Australian users were making a splash on the worldwide site and that a local site would make it easier to get content noticed. We can obviously expect then, that there will be thousands, if not millions more Australian’s logging on to this site to bare all for the world to see.
Australian’s will now have the opportunity to get local content listed on the YouTube front page in the “featured videos” and “promoted videos” sections, more and more people will be looking for their chance to make their mark and impress their friends.
Although YouTube are expanding their operations and a new launch in any country will reignite the the online video buzz, there seems that not much has been done to improve the age verification requirements for the site meaning that anyone with access to a video camera, web cam or mobile phone will be able to contribute to the site.
Earlier in the year, after some concern at what his children were watching on YouTube, my friend Jurgen Schmechel released his long awaited e-book “Master YouTube” to help parents understand what their children have access to online.
If you are a parent and are not aware of the many options available on YouTube then you really must check this out before you walk in on your children watching something you would never want them to see. With the new Australian site there are going to be many more kids getting online just because of the added local exposure.
