New York Fashion Week Dates: September 8-15
Spotlight: Michael Costello. You saw him first on Project Runway, and he’s become a household name because of the beautiful gowns he’s put on A-List clients including Beyoncé and the Kardashians. Look out for his signature draping and goddess-esque silhouettes.
Other shows we’re watching: Cynthia Rowley & Thakoon
Spotlight: Tommy Hilfiger. You have more to be excited about for this show than just watching Gigi Hadid’s designs walk the runway. The American designer is bringing tech to the catwalk in his fashion show, allowing guests to shop online and via touch screens right after the show (just like Tom Ford). Reminder: We usually have to wait months for runway pieces to hit stores.
Other shows we’re watching: Zimmermann & Jason Wu
Spotlight: Self-Portrait. We’ve been seeing these dresses on all of our favorite style stars, and we can’t help but long for them every time we’re invited to a party. Known for their lace detail, we’re sure this label will give us many looks to wear to all of our spring occasions.
Other shows we’re watching: Dion Lee & Alexander Wang
Spotlight: Diane von Furstenberg. We love her shows. Period. Let us jog your memory from last year’s runway and remind you of the bright prints, curly locks, and flower hair pieces that flooded the catwalk. If you’re looking for the perfect maxi, we can bet you it will be on one of your favorite models (Karlie, Kendall, maybe Gigi?). The fashion world also tends to get a lot of beauty trends from DVF’s shows, and last year it was the blue eyeshadow moment.
Other shows we’re watching: Victoria Beckham & Opening Ceremony
Spotlight: The Row. Started by the Olsen Twins, this label is known for their overpowering pieces that sometimes can make the model look like they’re sinking in a pile of fabulous wool. Their Spring 2016 looks included a few form-fitting numbers that looked like something a Parisian model would slip on to grab her morning baguette, and we fell in love with the billowy white tops that floated in the air of the outdoor runway. We’re hoping for a few more great pieces that we can lust over, and who better to give them to us than our childhood heroes?
Other shows we’re watching: Oscar de la Renta & Rag & Bone
Spotlight: Beaufille. This breakout Canadian fashion brand wowed at their Fall 2016 show, and we can’t wait to see what sisters Chloé and Parris Gordon come out with next. The clothes are a combination of hard and soft, resulting in beautifully structured pieces.
Other shows we’re watching: Narciso Rodriguez & Alice + Olivia
Spotlight: Michael Kors. Michael usually gifts us with sophisticated pieces with touches of color (last season he loved red and blue) and we’re excited to see what colors he packs into this Spring 2017 runway. Perhaps most famous for his white ensembles, we’re betting we get the perfect white trousers out of this show.
Other shows we’re watching: Derek Lam & Ralph Lauren
Spotlight: Marc Jacobs. This celeb-loved brand has been all about prints lately, and we’re excited to see what’s new for spring. He usually has a goose-bump inducing show (last spring he set up his runway at the Ziegfeld theater with an Old Hollywood theme) and loves to cast our favorite A-list models like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski.
Other shows we’re watching: Calvin Klein & J. Mendel
