A large audience of soldiers and a number of children, probably from a nearby town or village, watch an entertainment troupe called the ‘Balmorals’. The show is being staged on a makeshift stage, erected in front of a brick building. It marks the finale of a sports day organised by the Black Watch Regiment.

The ‘Balmorals’ may have provided the perfect end to an enjoyable day of activities. Events throughout the day had included a pillow fight, a gas helmet race, a rifle grenade competition and a race for the local children. Prizes were awarded and the Divisional Commander and the divisional pet (a dog known as ‘Rip’) were both in attendance.
