If you’re anything like me, your travel outfits have been anything but Insta-worthy. 7 A.M. boarding times and last-minute packing don’t really inspire runway-ready looks, and knowing that there won’t be a crowd of cameras (just your parents or the Uber driver) waiting for you at the terminal definitely lowers the pressure of dressing like an off-duty Karlie Kloss. However, we at Newsette HQ are firm believers in dressing for the day you want to have, so why not put clothes on your body that inspire confidence and chicness while traveling to your next destination? In an effort to never have to spend another plane ride in sweatpants and an old camp t-shirt, here are 5 outfit formulas for traveling that celebrities swear by:

The 4-Piece Go-To

Perhaps the easiest, and yet most worn outfit combination of celebrities consists of 4 basics: plain t-shirt, jacket (like leather or denim), stretchy pants (think boyfriend jeans or black trousers), and sneakers. Think: Gigi Hadid jetting off to New York.

The Always-Chic Outfit

Never underestimate the power of a duster jacket: the simple and comfortable outer layer makes any outfit look chic and put-together. And I mean any outfit. Ever thrown a duster jacket over your workout ensemble? Even in your sweaty leggings post-yoga, people might still confuse you for Selena Gomez. That’s the power of the duster jacket. This ensemble is practically a fool proof combination, but to take all the guess work out of getting dressed, opt for monochrome underneath the jacket (like black jeans and a black tee). Think: Miranda Kerr flying in from Paris.

The Comfortable Dress Outfit Formula

While a dress may seem off-putting for long travel days, think about it this way; it’s just like wearing a blanket all day, and it’s moveable, flexible, and comfortable. Bonus: you don’t have to worry about forgetting to take off your belt at TSA. Opt for a silky mid-length or maxi slip, for optimal comfort and style), and wear underneath an oversize sweater or cardigan, in case the plane gets cold. Wear with booties or white sneakers. Think: Jessica Alba heading off to a vacation in Cabo.

The Outfit with Celebrities’ Favorite Accessory

Oh, scarves! How can we ever thank you for the versatility and chicness you bring to our outfits? It’s no wonder the scarf is a celebrity staple at the airport, because it adds style and personality to any outfit, and can double as a blanket for those cold flights, or even a neck pillow when you need to take a quick nap. In cold weather, wear a blanket scarf (the bigger the better), and never be cold on a plane again, or in warmer weather, toss on a silk scarf to elevate the typical jeans, tee, and leather jacket or blazer. Think: Jennifer Aniston jetting off to London.

The Edgy Travel Outfit

Has anyone noticed that every celebrity and model on our Instagram feed has been wearing leather pants and a leather coat or jacket lately? It seems like every It Girl from Kendall Jenner to Olivia Palermo has been photographed in this outfit formula recently. The good news for us is that it’s easy to copy and easy to travel in. Faux-leather pants or leggings are actually extremely moveable and comfortable, but elevate any look to a whole new level. As for the shoes they usually wear… probably best to stick to sneakers. Because they don’t look comfortable. Think: Kendall Jenner arriving back in LAX.
