Melody McCloskey turned a bad haircut into a company worth hundreds of millions of dollars. After receiving not one but three bad haircuts that set her back $300 a pop, Melody knew that there had to be a better way to connect with stylists — and StyleSeat was born. The “OpenTable for the beauty industry” is an online marketplace for finding and booking beauty and wellness services where you can reach 350,000 professionals across the country. Since launching back in 2010, this founder/CEO has become an expert businesswoman, counting the Uber founders and Ashton Kutcher as investors. So what does this beauty boss do in the early hours of the A.M.? Find out below.
6 A.M. I start my day around 6 A.M. First, I make myself a cup of tea and then I let the dogs out and feed them. I try take a little bit of time to relax and get centered for the day – honestly attempting not to do too much thinking but just being present and enjoying my pups and my husband. I then make breakfast – most often I make myself a super healthy smoothie, but on the weekends I do like to indulge a bit and I’ll make my husband and I a full one. As I eat breakfast I slowly get up to speed with what’s going on the news – I check out the NYT and I read a lot of culture-type articles.
6:45 A.M. I work out around 5 days a week and it’s either with my trainer or I’ll do an at-home workout. This is super important to me and it helps me clear my mind, stay focused and really gives me a sense of euphoria as I leave the gym to take on the day feeling strong and motivated.

7:45 A.M. After my workout I get ready for the day. I really appreciate a simple skincare and makeup routine. Taking care of your body involves skincare as well and right now I’m super into the Drunk Elephant Vitamin C serum and the SkinCeuticals triple lipid moisturizer. For makeup I use a tinted mineral sunblock base from La Roche Posay, then foundation and bronzer. I finish by curling my eyelashes and I usually go big on mascara to really make my eyes pop.
For my hair, I honestly couldn’t live without my Dyson hair dryer. It cuts my drying time WAY down and allows me the time to actually run a curling wand through my hair. I use the GHD one from Sephora. I love a good texturizing spray to set the curls for a professional yet beachy look.

8:45 A.M. Then, it’s off to the office where I get to work with an amazing and innovative all-female executive team and of course the most creative and inspiring independent beauty pros out there!
