Rachel Brathen (Yoga Girl) is the ultimate wellness guru and shares her adventures with 2.1 million Instagram followers watching her every (yoga) move. The Swedish native is a New York Times best-selling author, serial entrepreneur, and yoga teacher currently living in Aruba. Basically, she’s living in a real-life fairytale. So what does this yoga boss do in the early hours of the A.M.? Scroll down to see.
6:30 A.M. I have an 8-week old little girl so waking up (or sleeping in general!) is very different every day. She sleeps pretty well (thank god) and we usually get up around 6.30am if we slept well – if we didn’t, I’ll try to get her to sleep a little longer so we can get up around 8.
7 A.M. Once we’re up, my husband will change and dress the baby and I’ll get my things together and take the dogs out for a quick walk. We have three dogs and two goats; after our walk I feed all the animals. I don’t shower in the morning because we head to our yoga studio first thing where I get to take a sweaty class at least 5 or 6 days a week. It’s awesome!
7:15 A.M. I drink a cup of tea or have hot water with lemon and then we pack our things, which with a baby takes a lot longer than I’m used to… And get in the car to drive to the studio. Island Yoga, our yoga studio, houses a boutique, offices and a full-service café and restaurant. We’re spoiled – we even have a baby room!
7:45 A.M. Island Yoga! We greet the early morning staff and open up the offices.
8 A.M. Green juice! I grab a juice from our café that I drink while nursing the baby in the garden or in my office.
8:15 A.M. Yoga time! We have 4-5 classes a day in the studio and I try to make sure I take a class every morning. My husband watches the baby so I can roll my mat out and flow for an hour. It keeps me sane! I practice on a Jade mat and love Teeki’s yoga pants – they’re made of recycled water bottles!
9:15 A.M. Yoga is done and I take a shower. I love philosophys’s products – I use their Purity facial cleanser every morning and a shower gel that I love from Rituals. I moisturize with philosophy’s Take a deep breath cream – it’s gel based and super light so perfect for the hot Aruba weather! When I’m out of the shower I change and get ready for the day. I rarely use make-up but when I do I fill in my eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil from Tarte and use a little bit of under-eye concealer (these days I neeeeeeed it).
9:45 A.M. Lea Luna usually wants to eat again so I nurse her, either in the garden or in the café.
10 A.M. Breakfast! Or, technically, brunch. I’ll grab a vegan breakfast burrito or a smoothie and overnight oats. And coffee! My mornings are long and since I’m on maternity leave I don’t have to dive into meetings or a crazy inbox right away but I enjoy my coffee (soy or coconut latte macchiato) while chatting with students and customers at the studio.
11 A.M. Work! I answer some emails (usually while bouncing baby) and write on my book or prepare for my next podcast. Maternity leave in my world still involves a bit of work but it’s minimal compared to pre-baby life. I feel like we have found a pretty good day-to-day balance already.
