Sara Seward (she/her), founder of ENUF Period, has had enough of period pain. (See what we did there?) After struggling with severe menstrual pain for years, she’d begun turning to cannabis for help, but couldn’t find anything effective on the market where CBD was concerned. So, she took matters into her own hands and made (associate ED Reina’s favorite) CBD suppositories to target the ouchies right where they are.

Read on to hear more about her journey and ENUF Period’s products.

You’re a hairstylist. Why did you start ENUF Period, a CBD brand focusing on menstrual pain relief?
I’m someone that has struggled with severe period pain and symptoms for years, and though I have tried a number of different diets and pain solutions, I usually lean on cannabis for relief. Deciding to start ENUF was just me trying desperately to find a topical CBD product that actually worked for pain management as well as THC did. It was in that process of testing what was currently available in the market that I realized most products were either not as potent as I needed them to be, or were filled with more menthol than actual CBD. It was really discouraging for a bit, which led me to figuring out how to create my own version of what I couldn’t find. I wanted to create something I wish my younger self had the option to use rather than using pain pills or hormonal birth control.

What’s the difference between full spectrum CBD and broad spectrum CBD? What does your brand use and why?
I appreciate all forms of CBD. After a lot of research and testing, I found that full spectrum CBD works best for our products and the pain we aim to address. That being said, here are the differences:

  • Broad spectrum CBD contains all of the cannabinoids and plant extracts found in cannabis except THC. Broad spectrum CBD products are a great option for those with sensitive endocannabinoid systems, or for anyone whose workplace enforces stringent drug tests.
  • Full spectrum CBD is the whole plant left in its most natural form—all cannabinoids, plant extracts, and terpenes intact. Full spectrum has what researchers call an “entourage effect,” meaning that all of the natural plant compounds interact with each other and within the body synergistically, working better together than any single cannabinoid used alone. Essentially, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Now getting to your products. Can you explain the difference between the Day and Night suppositories? How are they best used? Can you use them when you’re not in pain?
The main difference between our Day and Night suppositories are the cannabinoids included in each product. I wanted to be really specific when creating these and lean on certain cannabinoids for their individual benefits that they offer—to support inflammation, hormonal insomnia, and pleasure. They both include 100mg of full spectrum CBD while the Day has 25mg of CBG and the Night has 10mg of CBN. CBG offers some pain management and tackles inflammation. CBN works against insomnia, keeping you asleep through the night without leaving you feeling groggy in the morning. (CBN is a very potent cannabinoid, which is why we only have 10mg in our product. A little goes a long way with this one.)

Both can be used for pleasure as well. Prior, they’d work more so as a lube to enhance pleasure while relaxing the area. They can both be used post-pleasure to help soothe and calm soreness. I’d generally recommend the Day for pre- and post-pleasure, though the Night does leave you with an incredible night’s sleep after, so it kind of  depends on the mood you’re in.

Can you talk a bit about your Give Back Initiative? Why did you start it and who does it benefit?
I’m very aware of the stigmatized industries that we’re in, and the privilege that I hold being able to create a brand like this. It only felt right profiting off this plant by giving back to the community. We donate 3% of our annual sales to The Last Prisoner Project, helping those who have been and currently are incarcerated because of cannabis.

I also wanted to contribute as a menstrual and sexual health company, which is also a stigmatized industry. Period poverty is very real, so we donate monthly to PERIOD. to help people receive necessary menstrual care products that might be harder to come by otherwise.
