She’s the one that I want… to make me a musical mashup. Marisa Davila (she/her) plays Jane Facciano, the leader of the OG Pink Ladies in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. (All episodes streaming now, BTW!) Four years before Grease takes place, Jane is the new girl at Rydell High who forms a group of outcasts determined to do things on their own terms, obvi sparking a moral panic that will change the high school forever. I know, I know—What about the soundtrack?! The series has new original scores by a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer known for albums by Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, and The Chicks. Now, as for Marisa’s music taste? Well, her parents are both professional musicians, so let’s just say she learned from the best and likes a lot of different stuff.

“I always apologize to people that get in my car (or at least warn them) that my taste in music is all over the place,” she shares. “One second, we’ll be listening to Lady Gaga’s latest hit and then Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago will come on. From Sara Bareilles to Bruno Mars, from Adele to Phil Collins’ Tarzan, from early 2000’s bops to Lizzy McAlpine, from Brandi Carlile to HAIM. It’s diverse and ever growing. As a kid, I loved music that I could groove and sing to. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve paid way more attention to the lyrics and how intentional the artists are when writing. Every song you hear, no matter what style, is so vulnerable because these artists were brave enough to share them with us in the first place. I was going back and forth on what kind of playlist I wanted to provide, but decided to make one that felt the most authentic to me, even if it comes across as comedically chaotic. You’ll discover songs that my parents introduced me to, a song that was playing when I had my first kiss, and ones that I’ve fallen in love with more recently. So, stick your headphones in, take a walk in the neighborhood, and hear the randomness that makes me, me.”

Yeah, this power playlist she’s supplying? Trust me when I say it’s electrifying. ⚡ And if you’re looking for a song to listen to during the Summer Nights ahead, she’s got a rec for that, too. “I recently stumbled upon the song Meteor by Sophia James and listened to it so much while filming,” she says. “It would automatically make me sob. Made me feel like no matter how big and heavy the world felt, or how hard days would get, I’m just happy to be alive and am going to enjoy every minute.”

Hopelessly devoted to all this good music 🎶,
