UPGRADE MY SUMMER HAIR CARE ROUTINE.

Summer beauty is all the talk right now. With humid and scorching temps more frequent than ever, taking care of your hair is no easy feat. But, don’t worry! We chatted with Ashley Streicher (she/her), R+Co collective member and celebrity hairstylist to dish on all things summer hair care and how she paved her way in the biz.

Since high school, she knew she wanted to make her mark in the hairdressing world, and completed beauty school in her teens. After a stint in New York as an assistant, she returned back to California and found herself in programs like Bumble academy, Sassoon, and TONI&GUY. “It was super important to me that every salon that I worked at had an education program so that I could continue learning and traveling to learn every technique I possibly could,” she says. Today, her focus is cutting and styling (although she has an incredible hair coloring background, too). And, she’s a salon owner in LA!

Can you tell us a little bit about STRIIIKE and how the concept came about?
In 2013, I started spending more time in Los Angeles, and eventually moved full-time. At this time, both of my sisters were in LA, and it felt natural that we work on a project together, hence how how Striiike was born.

As a celeb hairstylist and business owner, what does a typical week look like in your shoes?
It’s quite different every day, and my career has changed over the years. Since Striiike is able to really be its own thing now, I mostly focus on supporting my hair team there. On the days that I am in the salon, it looks exactly like any other busy haircutter. I show up early and sometimes don’t leave my station until the very end of the day. But because I’m not cutting hair every day, I love every haircut and client that I get to do, as it feels extra special to me! Other days, I’m often dreaming of new ways of using products, consulting with brands, and talking with other stylists and entrepreneurs about how to work together.

Ok, now we need your hair care advice. What are some hair products you think everyone should bring along when they travel in the summer? Any warm-weather hair care tips that you swear by?
There’s no question that my hair products that are made with R+Co are very summer centric. As they were created in LA, where it is summer year-round [laughing]. Sun Catcher Leave-In ConditionerDreamhouse Watermelon Wave SprayZig Zag Root Teasing + Texture Spray, and Labyrinth 3-in-1 are all inspired by the California lifestyle and the way I like to do hair. They’re multi-use and easy to use—no heat or clean hair required which makes them all perfect for travel as well!

My hair, and hair in general, can really change in high heat and humidity. And CA has both very dry heat and humid heat. My products are made for both kinds of heat. Be prepared for humidity with Dreamhouse and Suncatcher, and add Suncatcher and Zig Zag to hair in dry heat for volume and texture. Labyrinth is made for all types of heat, for the ultimate heat-free styling base!
