Today I Will...

GET READY WITH KIMANEE.
Kimanee Mason (she/her), mom, wife, and founder of Grace & Company does it all. And she started a company to help other women in the same boat.
After graduating high school in Jamaica, she moved to NYC and kickstarted her modeling career doing commercial work for L’Oréal, Aveda, and Levi’s and runways for Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Oscar’s de la Renta. At the same time, she studied to get a BFA in design and started working on textiles and design for commercial spaces.
“Whether as a model where my hair was consistently damaged between shoots and runway shows, or as a working mom, a big pain point for me has been hair breakage and hair loss, especially after my little ones were born,” she says. So, she founded Grace & Company to help women “care for their hair holistically.” This means that her products can be used in the shower, during workouts, or in bed. Plus, they’re all cute AF. “My experience in fashion married with my commercial design experience allowed me to think about product functionality within the confines of fashion and wanting to create a collection of products that are as equally functional as they are fashionable and beautiful,” she explains.
Now that you know her and her company a little better, here’s how Kimanee gets ready for her day. She says, “As a wife and working mom of three boys, I have two mornings: the morning before my kids get up, and the morning after my kids get up when we usher them off to school.”
5 A.M. I start my day with prayer. Faith is essential to my family and is central to the way I start each day.
5:15 A.M. I freshen up and put on my workout clothes, pull my hair back in a ponytail, and use our spa headband to keep my hair back and sweat from my face during my workout. Using a micro-cotton spa headband is important because it’s gentle enough on my hairline while being absorbent enough to wick away the excess sweat. I drink a glass of water before heading out the door to an hour of exercise.
6:15 A.M. Connect with my husband and discuss our schedules for the day then I take a shower and get myself ready. I use our shower cap to protect my hair from water and humidity while showering. My hair is very sensitive to humidity and frizzes easily so a shower cap that fits well and is 100% waterproof is key. I use the Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash each day and use the Lush BB Seaweed Mask once per week. I love the fresh, light smell of this Kosas body wash on most days and use Diptyque Do Son when I want something a bit more fragrant. (Deputy ED Reina also loves that Diptyque scent.) After showering, I moisturize my face with a mix of the Augustus Bader Rich Cream and a face oil and use the body oil from Osea.
6:45 A.M. I look at my work schedule for the day and check emails and messages from my team and give any direction needed. This is just a quick check-in before I start work around 9 A.M.
7 A.M. I make breakfast, usually oatmeal or eggs, while my husband showers our boys, then I pack their lunches for school.
8 A.M. My husband and I read and sing Scripture with our children, we have a blast making up songs, getting some wiggles out, and then we drop our boys off to school.
8:30 A.M. After drop off, my husband and I have prayer time together and just enjoy spending quality time together.
9 A.M. I start my work for the day, starting with the most important thing then going down the list by priority.
