I’ve always wondered what my legacy would look like. I’ve seen it in the books I read from authors I adore, in the countless celebrities I grew up watching, and in my childhood friend and our hometown after he passed away too soon. In My Legacy with co-host Arndrea Waters King (she/her), the podcast explores the meaning of legacy through the personal stories of extraordinary individuals. Also the co-founder of Realize the Dream, Arndrea, along with her other co-hosts, sit down with guests from all walks of life—activists, leaders, artists, and changemakers—to discuss how they’re shaping their journey through service, resilience, and purpose. That’s exactly the kinda content the world needs right now if you ask me.

So, what makes My Legacy special?
One of the things that makes this podcast special is our Plus One concept—each guest brings along someone who’s been instrumental in their journey, whether it’s a loved one, a mentor, a best friend, or a confidante. We’ve had deeply moving conversations, like Mel Robbins and her daughter Sawyer sharing how legacy is passed between generations, Sanjay Gupta and his wife Rebecca reflecting on the impact of partnership, and David Oyelowo and his best friend Nate Parker discussing their shared commitment to storytelling and activism. Even Martin Sheen brought along his longtime friend and mentor, Father John Dear, a fellow advocate with whom he’s been arrested for non-violent protests.

These conversations allow us to see the ripple effect of legacy in action—how the people who shape us also shape the impact we leave behind. Each episode challenges us to reflect on the influence we have on others and how we can turn our values into meaningful action.

What have you learned about others, or even yourself, since starting the podcast?
Since launching, I’ve been deeply moved by the stories we’ve uncovered—stories of everyday people who’ve turned hardship into hope, challenge into change. It’s reinforced my belief that legacy is built in the moments we show up for others. Each of our guests have offered a unique perspective on what legacy means and how it’s woven into the way we live, love, and serve. As my co-host Martin says in the premiere episode, “Everybody has a story, and it includes everyone and excludes no one. It really is about inclusiveness. If we’re going to move this nation and the world forward, it has to be done collectively together.”

What do you hope others learn from listening to your series?
I hope listeners learn to see themselves as part of something greater. These conversations are about more than history—they’re about the choices we make today to create a better tomorrow. In a world that often feels divided, this podcast serves as a reminder that we’re all connected, and that each of us has the power to leave a positive mark. We hope listeners walk away not only feeling inspired, but empowered to take action—whether by mentoring, uplifting the next generation of women leaders, or finding ways to serve their communities. At the end of the day, legacy isn’t just something we inherit; it’s something we build.
