Meet and Greet

Making her mark in the music world with her debut EP lovesick is artist Audrey Huynh (she/her). Her soft yet powerful voice and emotional depth brings a fresh sound to the scene, making listeners feel like they’re discovering a long-lost friend in every lyric. (Hi, new bestie!) Below, we dive into the songwriting and inspo behind her latest work as Audrey shares why her music will resonate with you, too. Plus, a handcrafted playlist that’s bound to make you feel something.
So, how would you describe your music taste?
I love listening to different genres of music, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be sad indie music. I love a good song that I can cry to, so I tend to gravitate towards ones that are super vibey and lyric-driven.
What was the inspiration behind lovesick?
I took inspiration from artists that I genuinely like listening to because it’s important to like the art that you create. Much of this EP is a reflection of what’s going on in my head at any given time, which is pretty special because of how vulnerable it feels. I write my music for myself, but I hope that people are able to listen to my music and feel seen.
Do you have a favorite track?
My favorite track has always been feel something. This was one of the first songs that made it on the track list, and it’s a perfect representation of my sound as an artist and who I am as a person. This song just feels the most vulnerable, and I think many people can relate to it.
What was the production process like?
I made all of these songs with my producer over the span of a month or two, and it was actually one of the best experiences of my life. Being able to fully immerse myself into my songs and work in a collaborative space like that was something I never had the chance to do before. Honestly, picking the track list was the hardest part because I have a lot of great songs that didn’t necessarily make the final cut. But making these songs specifically was very rewarding, and I’m beyond excited for people to finally be able to listen to them.
Did music play a role in building your character for XO, Kitty? [Spoilers ahead!]
Stella’s character arc in the show is that she was a failed star in a way. She auditioned for this reality show and didn’t make it in, which sparks this whole revenge journey that she goes on a few years later. We didn’t really get to see the musical side of her this season, but I would love to dive into that part of her and unpack that if I got the chance. What’s so funny, though, is that there’s a scene where we see a flashback of young Stella’s audition, and they actually had me sing the song live while filming. I was in such an insane outfit for the flashback—I had a prosthetic nose and everything [laughing].
And finally, which artist would you like to see get their flowers?
Anything Grace Enger will release this year is going to be huge. I’ve been listening to her music for so long now, and she’s one of the most talented singer-songwriters that I follow. She has such an insane way with her words, and her songs have seriously gotten me through some tough times.
