Work From Home Diaries
Working from home, everybody’s doing it—even American royalty. Amanda Hearst is a sustainable entrepreneur and the Co-Founder of Maison de Mode, a luxury retailer focused on high fashion with a low carbon footprint. She’s also an heiress and former model... but she’s still making at-home coffee and wearing yoga pants to Zoom calls, just like the rest of us. Here’s a snapshot from Amanda’s WFH life, but spoiler alert: While the New York native may have gotten married at her family’s castle (really), she's still parked on her couch trying to master the art of the double Slack message.
Where are you working? Is it better than your office chair?
My couch is bright yellow, with a mid-century modern vibe. I’ve actually always been more of a “couch worker” then “desk worker” 😂
How do you get dressed for work if you’re not going anywhere?
My 24/7 uniform right now is workout clothing—black leggings with a T-shirt and sweater… But I keep [my wardrobe] sustainable… NAGNATA (by two sisters from Australia), Girlfriend Collective (made from 79% recycled polyester), and Beyond Yoga (which is totally female-founded and run) are my current faves.
What are the unexpected benefits of WFH?
You’re forced to really work! I’m basically just working, [especially because] conference calls can go on a lot longer when you don’t see people in person. I was on a four and a half hour call yesterday! It’s a very odd, nerdy life right now at home… but luckily for our business, “work from home” isn’t too hard for us because we are an online retailer.
What habits will you keep from this experience even after things go back to normal?
Well, I just got yoga mats for me and my husband, so it would be great if we started working out at home more. I’ve been wanting to get back into yoga, and in these stressful times, it could be the perfect activity.
True or False: Netflix will be the death of WFH productivity?
I’m not too worried about Netflix!… I like doing puzzles.
