She’s ready to be player one. If you know gaming, you know BrookeAB. The college student turned pro-streamer is now a Twitch favorite and a content creator for esports company 100 Thieves. And although her life of clacking away at a keyboard seems like a total breeze, she’s faced her fair share of trolls—and even stalkers—along the way.

Here, Brooke shares her favs in gaming, beauty, and women empowerment, because the top is looking real male right now.

What’s your favorite game to play?
As of now, Valorant, but it changes, like, every 2 months.

How do you pick a character?
Honestly, when I’m introduced to a new character and I don’t know anything about their abilities or what they do, I just pick whoever has the cutest outfit.

How many hours a day are you gaming?
On the days I’m streaming, about 7-8 hours.

Woah. How do you take care of your eyes?
Oh my gosh, my eyes are really bad and I can already feel my eyesight getting worse. I have glasses I’m supposed to wear, but I’m the worst about it. At the end of the day, my eyes literally burn when I blink.

How would you describe being a girl gamer?
It can be very rewarding and empowering when you see other women being successful with you, but it can also be extremely frustrating and disappointing when you’re treated differently.

How have you been treated differently?
If I join a game and have my voice on, a lot of times I immediately get, “Shut up. No one wants to hear what you think. Go back to the kitchen.” And you get that in the industry as well. A lot of the top streamers are men, and there are very few women at the events. You can definitely see the difference.

True or false: Streaming is easy.
Very false! Playing video games for a living sounds easy, but what people don’t understand is what comes with it. If you have a 9-5 job, you clock out at the end of the day. With streaming, it’s nonstop. It’s your entire life. You also have to deal with people constantly being in your business. There’s a lot that comes with it for me personally, like stalking issues; things that people don’t look into and just say, “Wow, you have it so easy.”

What’s your advice for women who want to get into gaming?
Keep powering through. I’ve had times where I’m like, “You know what? Maybe this isn’t worth the harassment, the bullying—everything that comes with being a woman in this industry.” But I’m so glad I pushed through because I think it makes a difference. The more of us there are, eventually this will only get better.

How do you get camera-ready before going live?
I do my morning skincare routine, then do different hairstyles and makeup based on how I’m feeling. Sometimes I’ll do a crazier look with a bright pink or sometimes it’s something minimal.

What’s your favorite skincare or beauty product?
I use so much, but lately, I’ve been using a ton of Tatcha.

What’s been your favorite collab?
Definitely Brie Larson. I was all nervous, like, “Oh my God, this is a celebrity I’m streaming with.” But she was so down to earth and kind. So it was really cool to be like, “You know what? They’re people, too.”

Would you ever want to be in a Marvel film?
Oh yeah, I love Marvel. I feel like being a funny sidekick would be fun. Being the hero might be a lot of work [laughing].
