Give her a ring… then watch her dominate it. This year, Amanda Serrano was one of the first women to headline Madison Square Garden for a female boxing match. (You can watch her historic fight against Katie Taylor here on DAZN.) She’s also a 9-time world champion, but don’t forget legendary athletes are just like us. Example: She adores Bad Bunny, too.

Here, we ask the Sock Em’ star about getting her start and how she gets ready for a big match.

When did you take your first real hit?
I was a babysitter at the gym, but my sister was a boxer so we used to do Saturday sparring sessions. I went in there one time with a boy, he punched me in the face, and I said, “I don’t want to do this ever again.” That happened when I was about 14. Four years later, I started boxing. And after that, I guess I was numb to the punches.

What made you change your mind?
I have no idea. I graduated high school, and one day I was reading the newspaper and a tournament for the New York Golden Gloves was happening. I signed up for it, and that’s when I began training for the rest of my career.

You and Katie were the first women boxers to headline Madison Square Garden. Why do you think that moment finally happened now?
Well, women’s boxing is growing, and this is the fight everybody wanted to see. This was a fan fight. You got 2 great women going at it. Her accomplishments, my accomplishments; I had the backing of Jake Paul and she had Eddie Hearn. I think it was just meant for us.

What’s your pre-match ritual to get hyped up?
Listening to great music like hip-hop and reggaeton. Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, Don Omar [laughing]; they just bring something out of me. I get into the zone and surround myself with my family. We have fun and laugh. That’s all you have to do. Just laugh. The work is already put in. Now enjoy it.
