With more than 4M breast cancer survivors living in the U.S. today—and more than 300k people to be diagnosed this year—The Newsette is determined to join the #1 breast cancer movement in the country, and end the disease as we know it. That’s why, this October, our team is lacing up for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Central Park—walking alongside cancer survivors, thrivers, caregivers, and loved ones.

To prepare for the big day, we sat down with a few of our staffers to learn why they’re walking. We hope these stories inspire you, make you feel less alone, and motivate you to either join us on October 20th in Central Park, sign up for any of the 150 events nationwide, or donate to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research and patient support programs. Together, we can go far. 🚶‍♀️🩷

Who I’m Walking For:
My Grandma Della, whose resilient spirit is the foundation of our family. She lost her battle with breast cancer at the young age of 42, leaving behind her four beloved children—including my mom, who was just 17 at the time. I hope to honor my grandma’s memory with this walk, and contribute to the fight against this disease that continues to take away so many of our loved ones.

Why I’m Joining to Make Strides:
I want to see cancer treatment and support become more accessible for everyone. Cancer affects all communities, and no one should feel alone in their journey. We’re not only raising money for life-changing research, we’re also making strides to support health equity through essential programs and services for people of all walks of life.

Who I’m Walking For:
My dear friend Livvy, who is about six months into her battle and absolutely crushing it—and for all of the resilient women in my life who’ve been affected by breast cancer.

Why I’m Joining to Make Strides:
I’m joining Making Strides to show my commitment to helping end breast cancer as we know it through the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving research and essential services—providing hope for a longer, healthier life to everyone dealing with breast cancer.

Who I’m Walking For:
My paternal grandma, Jeanette, who passed away from breast cancer when she was just 39. Even though I never had a chance to meet her, she’s always held a special place in my heart.

How I’m Putting Pep in My Step:
Team spirit! I can’t wait for my teammates and I to hype each other up by sporting festive, head-to-toe pink ~lewks~ that match the vibrant energy of NYC.

Feeling inspired to join the movement? Sign updonate, or join us in Central Park on October 20th. See you there!
