GET READY WITH SHEA.

She’s no urban legend. Shea Jensen (she/her), president of Urban Outfitters, is the real deal—especially as she takes on her new role and plans for what’s next at the beloved brand. “I love working with our team of creative people who are passionate about serving the next generation,” she says. “It’s been an exciting year as we have facilitated research about our customer, identified our growth strategies, and built our leadership team. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue to evolve our company to meet the demand of young customers today—and in the future—and to see how our shoppers continue to respond.”

We spent the morning with Shea learning her beauty routine, how she likes her eggs, and why wellness is essential for her to be the best leader she can be.

First, what time do you usually wake up?
I have two kids and have been an early riser for years as a result, but more so I love the start of a new day. I’m typically up around 5:30 A.M. and off to practice yoga by 6:15 A.M.

What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
I make my latte, check out new products on the site, and then start thinking about messages to center our team. I like to tie in cultural relevance—because our team sits at the center of pop culture and creativity. I find that quotes often convey powerful messages that unite us. We talk about sports, entertainment, academia, and philosophy.

What’s your beauty routine like? What products do you use?
I wear limited makeup, but love skincare. I swear by Peter Thomas Roth eye patches and peel pads, as well as Sunday Riley C.E.O. moisturizer and oil. I also always keep a mix of clear or lightly tinted lip glosses within reach!

What do you usually make for breakfast?
Luckily, URBN has quite a fantastic cafe! I typically have breakfast at the office, usually hard boiled eggs or a sugar-free yogurt. Plus, I officially kick off my day with my second almond milk latte, of course.

Do you have a go-to outfit or style?
I love that our workplace values self-expression and dressing in a way that empowers yourself. I typically dress casually: BDG denim, cashmere sweater, and socks. I like a patterned sock for something fun, too!

What time do you start work? What’s the first thing you do when you step into the office?
I usually glance at daily sales around 7:30 A.M. after my workout ends, but I start my work day officially around 9:00 A.M. Once at the office, I like to check in with my team and make sure everyone is doing well. Then, I open my laptop, review my calendar, and make sure I have all the materials I need for the day.

Is there anything else that you do in the mornings that helps you get ready for your day?
I’ve learned that giving myself permission to take 60 minutes to focus solely on my own wellness allows me to show up as a better wife, a better mom, a better coworker, a better teammate, and (hopefully) a better leader. For me, I usually spend this hour in the morning practicing yoga or taking a nice power walk. Starting your day off on the right foot is essential for continued productivity.
