Here at Newsette HQ, we jump at any opportunity to try a new workout. From HIIT to dancing and yoga to pilates, everyone on the team has different preferences when it comes to sweating it out. Looking for a new class to try out this summer? Below, we share three of our favorite spots to get a workout in during a busy work week. Enjoy!
Daniella, Founder and CEO

  1. Shadowbox: I am not the kind of person who enjoys working out, but boxing is a cardio workout that I actually love doing. It makes me feel like I’m Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, and immediately after a class I feel super accomplished and energized. This studio in particular is fantastic, and just a 30-second walk from my apartment (which is nice because after this class, I usually need a shower ASAP).
  2. Yoga at Equinox. Sometimes the best cure for a long day is taking some deep breaths while stretching it out in down dog. I’m just getting back into yoga after taking a four year hiatus, and although it’s disappointing that I can no longer touch my toes (yes, I’m the only one using the blocks on that pose), it relaxes me like nothing else.
  3. 305 Fitness. As I mentioned above, I don’t enjoy working out. So when I find a class that doesn’t feel like a workout, I fall in love. 305’s classes are all structured to feel like you’re dancing at a club in Miami, so you’re basically sweating it out while having the time of your life. Bring a friend, and dance the morning away.

  1. Rumble Boxing: I was hesitant to go to a boxing class only because the idea intimidated me. I love Rumble because they walk you through all the steps, blast amazing music, and you divide your time between floor exercises, weights and boxing with a hanging bag. The instructors are so motivating and you’re dripping in sweat after your workout.
  2. Precision Running at Equinox: I’ve always been loyal to Equinox because I love everything about it. They have updated equipment, steam rooms, and showers filled with Kiehl’s products. Their running class is one of my favorites because the short intervals during the class make time fly by and before you know it you’ve run 3-5 miles in 45 minutes!
  3. Switch Playground: When I’m in the mood for a high-intensity workout, Switch is my ultimate go-to. It always challenges me and pushes me beyond my limits. You rotate between 20-40 stations for 2 minutes each so you never get bored or tired of the move you’re working on.

  1. Shadowbox: This boxing studio is right down the street from me, and it’s quickly become one of my favorites to visit in the city. Not only do you work up a sweat (you leave literally dripping), it’s honestly a great way to let out some stress and anger you might be harboring. If I’m feeling overwhelmed, a trip to Shadowbox does the trick.
  2. Pilates at Equinox: I take pilates classes at Equinox a few times a week. Though it’s not as upbeat as other options, I find it’s a good balance between a difficult workout and a yoga class. Each time I go I feel calm, in the moment, and like I’m doing something positive for my body/mind.
  3. Yoga: I recently went to St. Kitts, and had a private yoga session in an old sugar mill! If you don’t know what one looks like, it was basically a cylindrical building with an open top, painted the most relaxing light blue. Feeling the breeze, and seeing a perfect blue sky above me, I was reminded of why yoga is such a great workout option. Though I don’t necessarily feel like it tones me all that much, its benefits are more spiritual. It’s like an active meditation, and I try to take a class each time my mind feels jumbled with thoughts.

  1. FlyBarre: Burn. Baby. Burn. I adore their Power 45 classes because they’re easy to schedule and attend during your lunch break. While it isn’t the most sweat-inducing class you can take, the burn you feel during and after class lets you know that the toning moves are working!
  2. FHitting Room: This is the place to go if you love HIIT workouts! Classes include 5 different circuits that have you torching calories and building strength at the same time. The chuckers at the very end are deadly, but once the class is finished you leave feeling stronger than ever!
  3. 305 Fitness: I don’t like to run very much, and cycling classes are the bane of my existence…but if you disguise cardio as a dance party, I’m in! I can confidently say that this is the only workout class I’ve been to where I can actually smile (and sing) through the sweat.

  1. SoulCycle: (East 83rd St) with Julie Anne. Not only is her class challenging, but it’s the only SC class that without fail makes me sweat like crazy and leave feeling like a new person. On top of being a Soul instructor, Julie Anne is also the founder of VFILES. Talk about a total girl boss!
  2. Mile High Run Club: When I started training for my first half marathon in 2015, running started to feel a bit like a chore. I love MHRC since it helps me get rid of that feeling by mixing up my running routine with great music, fun lighting, and an inspirational coach for some fresh motivation. I usually choose the High 45 or Dash 28 classes, since I like to do my long distance runs on the pavement.
  3. B MVMNT: I love their Buti Sculpt class, created by celeb trainer Bizzie Gold. It’s a 30-minute HIIT class, with intervals including dance cardio, band work, and yoga poses. Honestly, I always walk out of this studio feeling more powerful and more confident than when I walked in!
