I’m an artist slash business owner who creates for herself and pretty nifty brands.” We asked D’ana how she fits wellness into her busy schedule. Find her responses below.
Bad habits you’ve cut from your routine?

  1. Waking up and immediately reaching for my phone.
  2. Saying yes to everything.
  3. Drinking coffee at night.

Good habits you’ve added?

  1. Journaling in the morning before starting work.
  2. Keeping what’s essential on my work desk.
  3. Taking probiotics.

How do you keep yourself balanced throughout the day?
I’m a list fanatic, so I tend to insert myself in my list to ensure I am giving myself a break, eating, and walking around the block with my pup for some fresh air. Being a freelancer for four years now, it’s been a work in progress creating a workflow or system that works, yet the key to the balance beam of life or at least for me is self-discipline–and to treat myself like I would any other person.
Are there any activities you do to de-stress?
Monday through Friday I head to the gym for a 30 min to 1 hour workout–over time that has been my form of mediation. Working out allows me to shut my mind off from the outside noise. When I’m not working out, I tend to build things or make things with my hands because it gives me a chance to get out of my head for a bit and focus on finishing what’s in front of me and that warms my body up a bit and breaks routine.
How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Truthfully, this past month I started getting 5+ hours, as the past few months I have been working on multiple projects. Yet what I’d like to improve upon is waking up earlier, I really enjoy getting some work done and running errands before most people wake up but honestly, I love sleep and prefer to sleep in so it’s been a work in progress.
Do you have a favorite wellness trend?
Face/body rollers! It’s a part of my morning routine because my body tends to swell from time to time, especially after sleeping. It’s a fun yet effective routine that allows me to de-puff, wake up and refresh before I start my day.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Red onions and sweet potatoes! I tend to cater what I cook to fit those two ingredients as I have a very active lifestyle. For me, sweet potatoes have been a good and healthy alternative to bread and rice as those two do nothing good for me and often times causes inflammation.
Red onions took some time to get used to but now I can eat them raw or cooked in any meal–over time red onions have helped with my inflammation, which in my book is a win!
