She’s got the dirt. As the CEO and founder of The Sill, Eliza Blank is encouraging urban dwellers to embrace (and grow) their own indoor plants. But Eliza’s not a garden variety boss; she’s also a local business owner who pots her own succulents and teaches her customers how to find low-key plants that are basically wilt-proof. Here’s how the green goddess starts her day.

6:45 A.M. This is the time I wake up every single day… by alarm, of course. Why? I’m a new mom! And while my daughter is a champion sleeper (thank goodness), she’s the boss around here… She goes to bed at 7 P.M. every night, so I suppose it’s only fair we’re ready to greet her in the mornings… Most days I sleep in to the very last minute. Then I go into her room–she’s usually wide awake, all smiles, and meets you with a giggle followed by a squeal of excitement. Honestly, there’s nothing that jolts me awake faster than that pure energy.

8:00 A.M. Breakfast (usually eggs and toast) and my first pour of hot coffee. (Always hot, even in the summer.) My husband makes me breakfast, even if he has a breakfast meeting himself – bless him. Then our nanny arrives. (It takes a village!) I usually take 10 minutes to do a quick scan of my calendar, my email, and then our Forum and Instagram. Because I’m in bed by 10:30 at night, I feel like I miss a lot in the evenings, and I like to catch up. It’s always great to see what our customers are saying in real time – it’s another major motivator for the day ahead.

8:30 A.M. Shower. I don’t wash my hair every day, but when I do, it’s Living Proof Perfect Hair Day. (If I don’t, it’s dry shampoo.) I’m pretty accommodating when it comes to soap – honestly, anything in the drugstore. But I’ve always used Cetaphil face wash, and I’m religious about sunscreen. My go-to now is a tinted EltaMD SPF 46. Then I layer on a tinted moisturizer, and Glossier Boy Brow. Last step is to curl my eyelashes, and a quick swipe of mascara. On the weekends I don’t wear any makeup, so I take pleasure in the routing during the week.

8:45 A.M. I’m dressed in my typical uniform: jeans and a tee. I’m almost exclusively wearing Jungmaven hemp-blend tees these days. Then I’m getting in a quick snuggle before my daughter goes down for her nap at 9 A.M. (The life! Am I right?!) I do a scan of the apartment to see if there’s a chore I can knock out – usually I water the plants. Our collection keeps growing and growing, but my newest addition is a fiddle leaf fig. She’s a statement, but I generally get plants you can regularly ignore like the Snake Plant. I have a big floor-sized one from our Hester Street shop, and one on the windowsill in the bedroom. Then I’m out the door with the hope that I’m at the office by 9 A.M. It’s lucky I now live just down the block – okay, technically 5 blocks – from The Sill’s headquarters. My only regret is I don’t get to walk as much as I used to, but it’s reassuring to know I can get between my apartment and the office in 10 minutes flat.

9:00 A.M. Once I get to the office, I try and start drinking water. I spend my day in meetings and on the phone, so I can easily get dehydrated. I keep a Hydroflask on my desk so I don’t have to carry a heavy water bottle into work… Once it’s full, I’m ready to roll.
