She’s living the sweet life. Sabeena Ladha is the founder of Deux, an all-vegan cookie brand. She launched during the pandemic (oof), and has already landed deals with Whole Foods and Erewhon, where Deux is currently the top-selling cookie dough (ooo!).

We asked the new founder how she winds down from a 24 / 7 sugar rush, if she supports our “go dough or go home” attitude, and when it's the best time to hit the (spread)sheets.

5 P.M. I’m still working. Half the team is in LA; half the team is in New York. It’s funny; I wake up 3 hours later than the New York team, so I’ll wake up to all of that [work], but then they probably wake up to all of my evening work!… I am a little psycho about my inbox. [Laughing.] There are 2 types of people: There’s inbox-zero people, and then there’s inbox-11,200. And yes, not everything needs to be replied to, but it’s just respectful.

6:30 P.M. I stop taking meetings and take my dog for a walk. His name is Pablo. His dad’s name was Pablo Picasso, but I think our dog is more of a Pablo Escobar because he’s really sketchy. [Laughing.] He’s a French bulldog, so you can imagine he’s super mischievous. We walk around the neighborhood, but I immediately will turn on a podcast that can turn my brain off. Well, I’ll probably call my mom first because, you know, you got to call the mom… Sometimes I [listen to] How I Built This, but that still feels too work-ish to me. If I’ve had a crazy workday, I don’t even want to listen to How I Built This because it’s like PTSD.

7 P.M. My husband is home, and usually we’ve had a text conversation during the walk like, “What are we doing for dinner?” It’s never planned. Our go-to is like a salmon on brown rice with a side of something like mushrooms or asparagus.

8 P.M. I have to eat dessert right after dinner. I eat [cookie] dough throughout the whole day, but I particularly love it with a Cann. It’s this cocktail that has a tiny amount of THC and CBD, but the perfect amount to get you to relax. I tend to have at least 1 can a night, and I’ll break out the new [cookie] flavor. This week was birthday cake cookie dough!… There’s something kind of nostalgic or naughty about eating raw cookie dough, but I’ll usually eat it raw—[which] you can because it’s vegan and we heat treat our flour.

9 P.M. Since I was a little kid, my energy weirdly goes up at 9 P.M. It’s just when I have energy and when I’m feeling creative, and I just become a better problem solver. We’re thinking through holiday right now, and last night my mind was racing around, like, “What’s our holiday theme?” So our 2 flavors are pumpkin spice and sugar and spice. That kind of thematic or strategic work is better left for the evenings.

10 P.M. [Deux is] in this inflection point, which is fun… We started during the pandemic. It was May or June of last year, and I was taking a ton of supplements—like elderberry and zinc and vitamin C—to insure myself from the pandemic, not knowing if they [would] work. One morning, I was taking 10 supplements—and I have a major sweet tooth. I grew up on Oreos and Kraft mac and cheese—so I was like, “What if I could get a little Famous Amos cookie, but with all my immunity vitamins in [it]?”… [Then] we morphed into this edible cookie dough concept. We just got approved by Whole Foods a few weeks ago, so retail has been the focus for the last month.

11:30 P.M. I have a full skincare thing that I’m doing, so I’ll do that and then go to sleep. There’s this acid toner called Biologique P50 V that’s helped with a lot of [my] maskne. And have you heard of Glow Recipe? [They have] a watermelon mask; it smells so good. And it’s an overnight mask, so in the morning, [my skin] is super hydrated.

MIDNIGHT On most days, I can fall asleep pretty quickly. But lately, my mind has been racing a lot because we’re ramping up a lot of ideas, [so] it’s hard to turn it off. But I also want to remember them, so I’ll quickly jot [them] in my notes app. Then my husband will usually yell like, “Your screen is bright! Put away work; go to sleep,” and then I fall asleep pretty easily.
