Now, I might be a bit older than Disney’s target audience for Zombies and HSMTMTS, but that didn’t stop me from watching artist and actress Meg Donnelly (she/her) kill it in both shows. And then literally kill monsters as Mary Campbell in The Winchesters. As if she couldn’t get any cooler, she also voiced Supergirl on the latest Justice League. So yeah, she can do it all. Oh, and she has new music that drops tomorrow, too. “My album walks through self-preservation and the growing pains I’ve endured when crossing the threshold of forming my own identity,” she says. “I’m so excited to finally introduce my fans to the real me. Working on these songs, I’ve really put myself out there… It’s like a vulnerable look into my diary as I navigate my 20’s and decide the woman I want to be. Each song has a different look into my life, my thoughts, and my experiences. I’ve always struggled to find a balance between my love for dance and my dark thoughts, and I think I found a great balance with this album.”

But if you’re wondering about the exact definition of her musical work, it’s kinda iconic: “When I looked up my genre on Every Noise, it said NY Pop. So, pop with sprinkles of influences in my life, like R&B and NYC—which makes sense since I definitely have an eclectic taste in music from my parents.” To show off that eclectic taste even further, Meg wanted to share a personal playlist to honor the artists she looks up to. “When I was putting this together, my goal was to expose others to what I listen to, so they can get an understanding of where I’m pulling inspiration from when I create my own music,” she says. “Hitting shuffle on my music library is typically a wild gamble—from musical theater to gospel to rock to jazz. This mix is just a few of my favorites that come to mind, but there’s honestly so many songs I’m in love with. R&B/soul is a genre that raised me and continues to inspire me everyday, so there’s a lot of ‘90s and early ‘00 tracks on there. I also love the deep lyrics and feelings I get from listening to grunge/alt.”

And although she’s not listed on the playlist, Meg says she loves anything and everything by Victoria Monét. (Me too, girl. Me too.)
