Tanya Taylor is the Founder and Creative Director of her namesake label, a New York-based womenswear brand defined by femininity and eternal optimism. Bold in color yet soft in silhouette, the collections promote a lighthearted attitude for women who celebrate the art of dressing. The Tanya Taylor women share a point of view, not a dress size and the brand is proud to make sizes 0-22 each season. Between days spent at the office and evenings in her Soho apartment with her husband and 16-month-old son, Tanya can be found cooking, listening to reggae music, always carrying an oat latte and never wearing all black. Wondering how this fashion boss starts her busy day? She breaks down her morning routine below.
7:00 A.M. My alarm goes off and I check emails in bed while I listen to my son, Palmer, babbling on the monitor.
7:15 A.M. I jump in the shower and start by washing my face with Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser to wake myself up. I use the cleanser both in the morning and at night. It leaves my skin feeling so soft but still clean and refreshed.
7:30 A.M. I brush my teeth while holding my cat, Oscar. He’s always vying for my attention – he sleeps on top of my head every night – so this is a nice moment we have together every morning. After my teeth are brushed, I apply Dr. Barbara Sturm Brightening Face Lotion and head to the baby’s room.
7:45 A.M. I switch out the cat for the baby as I greet my son with a big kiss and listen to him scream with excitement when I open the curtains in his room. We then play in his little teepee for 10 minutes – it’s such a fun way to start the day and I really appreciate this time with him.
8:00 A.M. I make Palmer breakfast, usually pancakes or oatmeal and a smoothie. I alternate the fruits and vegetables I use but my current combination is kale, apple, banana and spinach. He loves it.
8:30 A.M. The nanny arrives, and I head to my room to get dressed. I put on a Spotify playlist – right now it’s Bette Davis (mis-spelled as Betty on Spotify) and try on a minimum of 3 outfits. I usually opt for a dress or a skirt and love to mix different patterns. I decide on our new Dita Dress. I have a dinner this evening and it transitions seamlessly from day to night.
9:00 A.M. I leave the house and am lucky that the office is just a short walk away. I put my phone in my bag and try not to look at it during my walk. I like to use the peaceful time to reflect and get inspired by the city around me.
9:10 A.M. I walk to The Smile on Howard Street and order an iced oat latte, a hot chai latte and an oatmeal and make my way to the office.
9:30 A.M. I arrive at the office, greet the team and settle into my desk. Every day is different, but we start every Monday with an entire staff meeting. It’s a great way to regroup, hear what each department is working on and set ourselves up for the week ahead.
