We at Newsette HQ are firm believers that healthy = happy, which is why we’ve decided to share our favorite feel-good foods. Not only are these grocery list staples extremely good for you, but they also have magical (ok, nutritional) properties that can get you feeling happy and stress-free. Scroll down to see five of our favorite foods that will boost your mood without breaking your diet.

Avocado

As if you needed another reason to pack these in your pantry. Avocados deliciously contain serotonin, a feel-good neurotransmitter. If that doesn’t get you excited, you should also know that these fruits (yeah, they’re fruits!) also do amazing things for your hair and skin.

Dark chocolate

Who said a little sweetness couldn’t make the list? Dark chocolate is high in magnesium, which is known to reduce anxiety and calm your muscles. It’s also a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth instead of reaching for the cookie jar.

Walnuts

Foods high in omega-3s (salmon counts too) help banish depression and mood swings while also improving your focus and memory. Being able to remember more names? That would be a plus.

Bananas

This easy to carry (but not at the bottom of your purse) snack is full of a chemical called tryptophan that helps the brain regulate mood. Another plus? It’s easy to add into almost any smoothie.

Spinach

There’s a reason this was Popeye’s favorite. Spinach contains a thing called folic acid, which actually helps reduce fatigue and can get you in a better mood. So next time you’re cooking up an omelette or dinner, add this green stuff into the mix.
