We love to eat here at Newsette HQ, which is why in this weeks HQ Hearts segment we’re sharing our favorite places to grab every meal of the day. From Uptown to Downtown, check out our go-to spots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in NYC below.
Daniella, Founder and CEO

  1. Breakfast: Union Fare is one of my weekend brunch staples. Not only do they have Fruity Pebble croissants that will literally make you cry tears of joy (I’m obsessed with the cereal so my friends know this discovery was a game-changer) but the actual breakfast food is top-tier. Bonus:
  2. Lunch: Made NiceDuring the work week I always order in (the result of being glued to my desk) and is where I usually Caviar from. Their salads are always fresh and tasty, and sometimes I’ll get a mini brownie bite to satisfy my mid-day sweet tooth.
  3. Dinner: The Smith all the way. Their food is consistently fantastic, and you can never go wrong with the steak frites. As a dessert, you HAVE to get their s’more jar.It will change your life. Bonus: They’re amazing with food allergies, which is very important when my boyfriend and I go out to eat.

  1. Breakfast: abcV or Tompkins Square Bagels. abcV is dangerously close to my apartment and I can’t resist their avocado toast and a cappuccino with house-made almond milk. It is my go-to for meetings and the perfect way to start off a productive day. You can always find one of our team members making a coffee run here! On the other hand, Tompkins is my favorite place for when I’ve had a long night out and need a bagel to bring me back to life. They have so much variety of flavors of bagels and cream cheese that I could spend hours trying to decide. (But my go-to is a whole wheat bagel with jalapeno cheddar cream cheese). Drool!
  2. Lunch:  The Plaza Food Hall or Santina. The Plaza food hall is perfect for if you want a quick eat and some variety. There are lots of little restaurants and stands so there is something for everyone. Stop by the crepe section after for some dessert 🙂 Santina is my favorite go-to for a long leisurely lunch when it is nice out because there are windows all around and they have fun food to share and refreshing cocktails.
  3. Dinner: BondST or Lil Frankie’s. Clearly I had trouble narrowing down my favorite places to eat..BondST is my favorite dinner place ever when I’m feeling a little fancy. The fish is so fresh and you have to get their Tuna Tarts. Lil’Frankie’s is my favorite place to order in from when I want some inexpensive but quality italian. You can’t go wrong for their white truffle pizza and lemon pasta. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.)

  1. Breakfast: EJ’s Luncheonette –Breakfast is my favorite meal, so I’ll opt for a hearty plate of eggs over a green juice any day. I love EJ’s because it’s not only delish diner food but it’s what I’d call a ‘clean’ diner. You don’t leave smelling like a pound of bacon – but their bacon is damn good and their gluten free cinnamon pancakes, their western omelette, biscuits, oh and their grits – I could go on and on.
  2. Lunch: Westville– Dine-in or takeout, I can always count on Westville for a great lunch. With lots of healthy options, and flavorful ones at that, I usually go for the Kale Salad with grilled chicken (pickled onions, craisins, blue cheese, pumpkin seeds!!!), I might even *need* that for lunch today…
  3. Dinner: Toloache– Tolo has been my fave NYC spot for 3+ years now. You truly can’t go wrong with any drink on the cocktail menu so try a few, and definitely come hungry because the Roja (spicy) guac, ceviche tasting plate, black truffle quesadilla, and carne asada tacos are ALL a must! We typically opt for a seat at the bar, because the bartenders and staff are so hospitable and fun! While you’re at it, check out their sister restaurant, La Chula, too!

  1. Breakfast: If I’m feeling healthy, The Butcher’s Daughter. Basic, I know, but good and by far one of the best avocado toast plates around. Try and score an outdoor seat during the summer! If I’m feeling unhealthy, though, it has to be Sadelle’s for a tower of bagels with lox and a solid Bloody Mary (extra spice, please).
  2. Lunch: By Chloe if I’m looking to order something yummy ahead for a quick pickup (their Guac burger is my jam), or something from Eataly. I like lots of options, especially when it comes to Italian food!
  3. Dinner: La Lanterna has the prettiest outdoor patio straight out of a fairytale AND some of the best lasagnas around. Take an espresso and pastry to-go after dinner and stroll around Washington Square Park to digest. I’m also obsessed with Gentleman Farmer for date night dins – it’s a super small, hole-in-the-wall spot in the LES (seriously, it only has like 7 tables) but has amazing French-inspired food and a great wine list. Très romantique!

  1. Breakfast: abcV- Not only am I lucky enough to live a 2-minute walk away from this gem, but Abcv happens to be (in my opinion) one of the best vegan restaurants in NYC. Their plates are nothing short of works of art–their chefs decorating macadamia cream and blueberries in delicate swirls–and are undeniably delicious, vegan or not. They also have a coffee shop-like bar where you can order anything from oat milk lattes to smoothies if grab-and-go is more your style.
  2. Lunch: Tender Greens- One of these fast-casual restaurants just opened around the corner of my apartment, and I’m admittedly obsessed. No joke, I eat it every single day. Why, you might ask? Well, not only are all of their ingredients locally sourced, their delicious meals are also incredibly affordable (especially for NYC). I love the rustic chicken soup and the romaine salad (which is like a caesar salad) with salt and pepper chicken. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it…
  3. Dinner: Galli- This Soho restaurant takes Italian classics (chicken parm, chicken marsala, etc) to the next level. The flavors are recognizable, yet elevated, which is (in my opinion) a perfect combination. Add in a glass of wine, and you’ve got yourself a perfect dinner.
