Dating apps can be a great way to meet people you likely would never connect with in the real world, but your dating efforts shouldn’t stop when you put down your phone. There are plenty of “real life” opportunities to meet others, and, after all, as humans, we thrive off of human interaction. Getting out there and meeting people is always a good thing, but if you’re unsure of how to find that special someone IRL (besides getting a drink at your local bar), here are some ideas!

Always Be Aware of Who’s Around You

Every time you leave the house is an opportunity to meet a future date or even future significant other! Whilst you’re waiting in line for your morning coffee, instead of scrolling through Instagram, try being more aware of who else is there. If you spot someone you like the look of, smile. Say “hi.” It might feel way out of your comfort zone and even scary, especially if you’re naturally shy, but it’s these kinds of small interactions that lead to conversations and hopefully some exchanges of numbers!

Try a New Class or Activity

Exploring a hobby, going to a class or doing something in a group environment is a great way to meet people naturally and build your social circle. Plus you’re learning and growing as an individual so it’s a win-win! Cooking classes, improv, group fitness classes, dancing, martial arts – follow your curiosity first in terms of what you’d like to do and you never know who you might meet whilst there!

Search the “What’s On” Guides in your Local Area

Galleries, museums, festivals and concerts are great places to meet people. Plus in these kinds of feel-good and fun environments, people tend to be very open to conversation. Cities in particular have all sorts of fantastic and unique events – not all of which have to involve alcohol and late nights if that isn’t your thing!

Switch up your Routine

Instead of going to the same places for brunch, dinner or cocktails, make a habit of exploring new bars and venues. If you go to a variety of different places with different groups of friends, you’re much more likely to meet new people on a more frequent basis.
Finally, don’t over-complicate it. Remember that you don’t have to be in a “dating” scenario to be able to meet people romantically. Every day is an opportunity! The more you look to build your interests, hobbies, and social circle, the more chances you’ll have of meeting someone special. So have fun, get creative and don’t feel that the answer to a happy love life has to be found behind a screen!
