She may run Seventeen, but Kristin Koch is a grown-up (mostly). From roasting chicken to negotiating with toddlers, Kristin’s nightly routine is almost as chaotic as her readers’ Drivers Ed tests… but obviously way more fun, because being an adult is actually pretty awesome. Here’s what after-hours at Kristin’s is like...

30 P.M. As soon as I get home (and get lots of hugs and kisses from the kids and puppy), I love to change into comfy clothes. I’m one of those girls who gets home and it’s all loungewear and leggings.

00 P.M. I cook dinner for the kids. My mom was a fabulous cook and always tried to teach me but I refused to learn. So when I say cook, I mean we heat up a roasted chicken, but I’m really trying! I made a stir fry the other day that everyone ate (including my three-year-old, who is very picky, so I consider that a huge achievement). But if it’s hectic, we’ll just order out… I’m a big pizza girl.

00 P.M. My kids are still in that phase where they go to bed early. After dinner, it’s time for a bath, which is a constant negotiation with my son. It’s chaos. He makes 100 million excuses not to go to bed, but as soon as he’s down, we’ll put down my daughter, and I’ll eat dinner with my husband.

00 P.M. I want to keep up on all the shows that Seventeen cares about. So right now I’m binge-watching Cheer on Netflix.

00 P.M. I’m always looking and checking emails, but at night after I’ve decompressed, I will go on the site and read anything new or work on any brand deals. I don’t expect people to be responding to my emails, but I like that quiet time to get work done.

30 P.M. I am so religious about my skincare because I had really bad acne when I was a teenager. I am so militant, I don’t care what time it is, I always wash my face and I always use my zit cream. At Seventeen, we’re really lucky to try out new products, but a lot of the stuff I use now, I also loved when I was a teen. My routine is very simple because I realized using too many products can backfire: I wash with St. Ives or Cetaphil, use an acne spot cream and call it a day.

00 P.M. I’m on TikTok and Instagram all the time. I send my team DMs on Instagram to keep up with what’s trending.

30 P.M. When I get into bed, I’ll watch videos on YouTube to send to my editors. Recently, I had one of those late night YouTube binges, and at 1 A.M. I sent my editor ideas for a new video series. For me, it’s a tool to see what other brands are doing, and what entertainment content is out there.

00 A.M. My bedtime varies. By nature I’m a night owl, but with kids who get up at 5, I try to go to bed at a reasonable time. I sleep with my phone–I know you’re not supposed to, but I’m often going down a rabbit hole on Instagram or online shopping. Some nights I’m exhausted and I pass out, but other times, I’ll be scrolling until I look up and see it’s past midnight.
