Emmelie De La Cruz is a marketing and branding expert who “turned her layoff into her legacy.” She has built a business teaching other millennials how to monetize their influence and expertise, while also aiding in launching, growing, and marketing blogs and brands. Emmelie lives by the words, “Your whole life can be a business, if you have the model and the marketing to make it happen.” Curious what this self-starter does before a day of helping others develop their own brands? Check out her productive morning routine below.
10 A.M. I am the ultimate night owl, so my days end when most people’s begin. Since I knock out around 3:30 A.M., I’m usually woken up by a black-and-white alarm named Lola, my Boston Terrier. Homegirl hovers over me while I quickly check my texts and forex trades, until I take her out for a walk.

10:30 A.M. Once I get back in, I will make the bed and get ready to start the day. I will read my emails to make sure my clients haven’t reached out with any urgent questions or requests on their launches, make sure my assistant is good to go, and check what packages need to be shipped out from my store, Melanin Magic shop.

11 A.M. Breakfast goes down! I hate stopping to make breakfast, because I’m a workaholic. BUT, I have a few quick options that I rotate throughout the week: an omelette in a bag, instant grits, waffles, cereal, bagels, or breakfast tacos. I recently designed a cookbook and meal plan guide for one of my clients, so I’m hoping to jump into the meal prep game in the next month or so once I’m done traveling.

11:15 A.M. While I eat breakfast, I will read a chapter from a book or listen to a podcast. Currently reading Soar, by T.D. Jakes and been meaning to check out the Skinny Confidential podcast.

11:30 A.M. This is the part where I should say, “I go to the gym.” like a good human, but I don’t. Instead, I head back upstairs to shower and put on a fresh set of pjs for the day. This is also the part of the day where I rant on my Instagram stories in my bonnet about a variety of marketing, business, or personal development topics.

11:45 A.M. Once I’m out the shower, I pamper my face. I had the worst hormonal acne ever, so I only use plant-based products. Once I get out of the shower, I will use my It Works! Toner and spot treat any blemishes with tea tree oil. While the toner and oil absorb into my skin, I brush my teeth with Colgate Optic White and floss with my Waterpik. (Life-changing duo and contraption.)  Afterwards, I moisturize with It Works! Preventage. If I’m going outside that day, I will spray on some Supergoop SPF. I just visited Israel and the Dead Sea, so I’m excited to incorporate the new Dead Sea Mud soap from Ahava.

12 P.M. After I’m dressed, I clock into work at my kitchen table where I stay until about 7 P.M. Most days begin with knocking out client work alongside my assistant and graphic designer. If it’s Monday or Thursday, I spend the bulk of the day on the phone with current and potential agency clients. I’ll take a break to make my Hello Fresh lunch and watch some trash TV — I LOVE paternity test shows. The drama is so refreshing from the seriousness of my day. Then I make a post office run to ship packages and books, and I end the evening with calls for my health and wellness business or forex accountability group. At night, I focus on my businesses, which could mean working on my Hobby to Business course or new designs for my shop. Most days, I’m behind a screen for endless hours, but when I vacation, I relax just as hard.
