Lisa Hayim is a registered dietitian and wellness blogger living in NYC, known for her mantra, “Eat Real and Be Mindful.”  Before starting her own private practice on the upper east side, where she counsels clients on how to eat mindfully, Lisa was just like us–a woman tired of reading what seemed like conflicting health advice online. So, she got a Master’s in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology from Columbia University…and the rest is history. When not working with clients, Lisa is filming for her new YouTube channel TWN tv, or curating content for her popular Instagram, The Well Necessities. 6:30 P.M. The last client I will see is a 5:30 P.M., so I finish up around 6:30 P.M.  When I was getting started with my business, I would see clients until all hours of the night. But two years in, I have found greater balance in coming in early in the morning and getting out earlier to have a few hours to unwind.  There’s a lot to say in having small self-made rules like this when you own you run business, and can easily give your whole life to making it succeed.
7 P.M. Finish emails and set up for the next day. My office is conveniently located 3 blocks from my house, but one thing I have learned in the past 6 months is not to take my laptop home with me when I can help it. If I take it home, I take home my work and am likely to be up and stimulated for far more time than I would like to. I try to keep my inbox slim (something that’s not easy for me), so getting it to as close to zero is key to not getting stuck in a cycle of playing catch up!
7:30 P.M. Take a bath and begin cooking dinner. I’m a big bath taker- If I’m sore, I’ll pour in some lavender Epsom salts and start to get real mellow.  If I’m washing my hair, I use IGK “Hot Girls” shampoo and “Instafamous “Conditioner which contain olive oil, shea butter, and are vegan and paraben/sulfate free!  They also smell insanely delicious! 2 times a week I do a Kate Somerville Exfolikate Mask. You leave it on for 2 minutes and then rinse it off. It leaves your skin feeling so soft, clean, and tingly.
8 P.M. I get out of the shower, towel dry my hair and leave in conditioner called Mistress Hydrating hair balm and Moroccan Oil.  I usually let my hair air dry. Once a week, I will piggy back the exfoliator mask with with a charcoal mask. It’s key to exfoliate first in order to penetrate my pores!  It stays on for 10 minutes so I begin cooking dinner. Dinner is a really special time for me and my boyfriend. We both love food, and eat mostly plant-based (he’s a vegan). I only cook vegan and I love making 5 or 6 dishes (you can see on my Instagram stories!). All of my food is simple (5 ingredients or less), made with whole foods, and shockingly delicious. I believe in the power of fresh herbs, spices, a little bit of salt, and of course, avocado! I usually get my ideas for easy recipes during dinner, and will then recreate the next day for Instagram, photos, and recipe perfecting!
8:30 P.M. Take the mask off and it’s dinner time!  I say a short prayer and verbally acknowledge that I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and 10000 other privileges I take for granted.  It’s not a religious thing, but it’s how I try to cultivate gratitude in a place it is easily lost. It also sets the tone to slow down. I like it to be really quiet around us when we eat. I grew up with lots of TV dinners, and I simply cherish the 20 minutes or so we spend just eating or talking. My boyfriend and I both juggle a lot of different roles both within our immediate families and at work, so carving out this time is KEY for us to feel connected and united.
9:30 P.M. Time for dishes!  I’m not a big TV watcher (except for Homeland on Sundays!). I will probably scroll on Instagram and answer a few comments before I start to turn down.
9:45 P.M. Back to the bathroom for my newfound evening face ritual.  By now my makeup is removed, exfoliated and my pores are cleaned. I recently started using the Vintner’s Daughter serum. It’s this crazy expensive serum that I wanted to scoff at, but turns out the joke is on me because I love this stuff!  It is fused with active botanicals and the method to apply is called the push press technique. You put 5 drops of serum on your hand, and then rub them together to activate the serum. Then you place a full hand on either side of your face and press firmly. Push the serum into skin by repeating push/press technique on your entire face, neck and decollete. Continue to repeat the entire process for 30 seconds. Immediately radiant!
10 P.M. In bed. Ok, you’re going to laugh here, but I take this next part very seriously! I have been a terrible sleeper my entire life and have only recently gotten my act together. First things first, I put my phone down and a pillow on top of it so no bright lights can disturb me. Then, I spray my pillow with This Works, deep sleep pillow spray made with lavender and wild chamomile. Then I light a new candle that was gifted to me from The Taja Collection that has my mantra “Eat Real, BE Mindful” engraved on it. This makes for a very thoughtful gift! It smells AMAZING. I then light up palo santo to clear the day’s energy. Right before bed, I put in two earplugs and hit the sack! If I’m feeling jittery, I will do a short meditation. If thoughts enter my brain and interfere with sleep, I will write them down and tell myself I can return to the thought tomorrow. Finally, it’s time for bed!
