Marisol Nichols stars as Hermione Lodge (a.k.a Veronica’s extremely stylish mother) on the CW’s hit series Riverdale, which will return for its third season on Wednesday, October 10th at 8pm. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Riverdale is the incredibly popular show based on the Archie comics, with a murder-mystery spin. You might also recognize Marisol from Fox’s 24 and NCIS. Aside from starring on a mega-hit show, this actress is passionate about fighting against human trafficking, which led her to start the Foundation for a Slavery-Free World. Because of Marisol’s extraordinary work, she has received a Presidential Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from Barack Obama and has spoken before the UN, congressmen and senators. Talk about impressive. Below, this incredibly busy actress and humanitarian shares her morning routine off–and on–set with us.

7:30 A.M. The alarm goes off and I turn off my sound machine – I like to sleep with the sound of pouring rain – I find I sleep like a log and it’s very peaceful. I kiss my daughter and wake her up for school. I try to do this gently so it’s not a shock. When I was a kid, my dad used to come in and flip on the lights and yank the covers off – hated that! Then, I make coffee!!!! – I love Nespresso, either Voluto, or hazelnut and vanilla mixed together with vanilla cream Stevia. Because nothing starts without coffee. I make breakfast for my daughter, which is usually egg whites (she doesn’t like the yolks) with grass-fed butter all over it, and some sliced strawberries as well as Van’s Original gluten-free waffles with butter only – no syrup. Then, I feed my zoo (I have a dog and 3 cats). While she’s eating, we usually read together. We’ve read the Beverly Cleary book series at least twice and we’re obsessed with Land of Stories by Chris Colfer.

8 A.M. It’s time for her to clean up her plates, get dressed, brush her teeth with Bubble Gum sugar-free Spry toothpaste, do her hair – lately I’ve been putting her hair in ponytails; it’s a really fun girlie moment for us – and get her out the door by 8:30am. After that, it’s my time. I usually make another cup of coffee and check emails while I’m still waking up. As I’m getting ready, I’m a multi-tasker, so very often I’ll check emails and texts on my iPhone and call people back on speaker so I can start getting into my work for the day. I will also use this time to memorize my lines for whatever Hermione has coming up in the next episode.

9 A.M. If I don’t have to be on set, I try to get my workout in now. I usually use 8-10 pound weights for arms and shoulders, a lot of core exercises, planks, different types of setups and then the treadmill. I love Nike Cortez shoes. They help me stabilize when I’m working on my core. If I wait too long, it’s a lot harder to work out, so I like to do it in the morning when I have the most energy. I’ll use my iPad and either answer emails, calls, etc or catch up on my favorite show. Currently, I’m binging the series The Americans. I usually do about 45 minutes to an hour and twice a week I add in weight training.

10 A.M. I jump in the shower and get ready. I use Monat shampoo and conditioner exclusively. It keeps my hair in great condition, shiny, healthy – I swear by their products. Put on great music using Pandora – anything from Gwen Stefani, Latin Pop or Classic Rock while I’m getting ready and maybe dance a little if I’m particularly energetic. 🙂 Then, it’s off to start my day! I let my hair air dry for a bit while I use a Charlotte Tilbury Eye Shadow Pallet called the Sophisticate, Pat McGrath Eyeliner color Espresso, Christian Dior Mascara, Glossier Blush in Beam, Boy Brow in black, Tom Ford Stick Foundation in Caramel and Sienna, and sometimes I switch that up to something else, depending on what I’m doing that day. Maybe I’ll add some cherry Chapstick. Sometimes I skip foundation all together. Once my hair is dry, I use the T3 1 3/4” barrel curling iron. I love the barrel on this. It creates the natural body that falls beautifully. I don’t use hairspray or anything else normally.
On set days:

6 A.M. I wake up, hopefully, at 6:00am and no earlier but there are always those days that start earlier. I jump in the shower and grab coffee in a giant to-go cup and I’m out the door.

7 A.M. Drive to work. The Riverdale set is about an hour away from downtown Vancouver, so I try to fill the time making calls to friends or listening to music.

8 A.M. I’m sitting in the hair chair now, and at about 8:45am, I’ve jumped to the makeup chair to get Hermione put together.

9 A.M. We go to set to rehearse and block the scene we are going to start shooting.

9:30 A.M. It’s back to makeup and getting dressed in my trailer.

10 A.M. Start shooting!
